Encroachment record goes missing
The rush, that started today, would continue at least till December 4. In this industrial town where weddings are an ostentatious affair people have been careful enough to book the hotels and marriage palaces preferred by them well in advance. For at least 50 marriage palaces and more than 100 good hotels in the city, it is peak business season and they are expecting to not just cover up for the days when they had no customers, but also to earn maximum profits. Our rooms are booked for at least two months now. Not just weddings, people are booking rooms for ceremonies like engagement as well. Besides, our hotel has a banquet hall which makes keeps us very busy, said Arun Jaie, GM, Park Plaza. For tourists coming from other parts of the country and foreigners securing a room in a hotel has become a tedious task these days.
The World's Most Expensive Watches
With over 20 forums in different brands, eras and styles, collectors can anonymously connect with other like-minded people; ask questions, seek advice and share pictures of their latest buys. Using screen names such as KeeperOfTime or RolexMan, they post photos of the watch they are wearing every Friday. No. 1 on his wish list is a Rolex Comex 1680, a watch created specifically for a French deep-sea diving company in 1978. With only 50 models made, many that have been altered and the dials changed, there are very few authentic "survivors." In fact, Zimmermann says that in Antiquorum's 34-year history, this timepiece has never come up for sale--until this year. He's keeping his eye on the one that has popped up, which will be auctioned in April. But with the price expected to reach at least $250,000, he thinks he will be outbid.
George Osborne's green gimmick
George Osborne thinks he has an answer to our saving malaise: a green individual savings account. This is being referred to as the "Gisa" (no, we don't know how to pronounce it, either, though we think it might rhyme with Lisa). Investors could apparently save thousands by putting their money into tax-free "green Isas'' (which would have a bigger allowance of, say, £9,000, rather than £7,000 for ordinary Isas) and reduce carbon emissions at the same time. It is not just savers who will benefit -qualifying companies will be boosted by billions in extra revenue. To qualify for inclusion in a Gisa, companies would need to gain a green kitemark. The likes of Marks & Spencer and GlaxoSmithKline, which are committed to big reductions in their carbon emissions would probably be eligible.
W. Chester woman allegedly bilked boss of $925,000
Embezzling public funds has become the white-collar crime du jour in Delaware County, with at least five such cases making headlines in recent memory. But Delco's embezzlement craze isn't confined to the public sector. Yesterday, authorities charged a West Chester woman with bilking her boss of $925,000 over nine years using four different methods of fraud. Authorities say Elizabeth Greenawalt, a "trusted employee" of more than 20 years at Environmental Equipment & Service Company, stole the money between 1997 and 2006. When Ralph Bucci, the owner of the Marcus Hook-based company, discovered accounting irregularities in October 2006, Greenawalt admitted to stealing an amount of money "yet to be determined," but agreed to pay the company $250,000, according to the criminal complaint.

US Airways to charge $25 for 2nd checked bag
TEMPE, Ariz. US Airways Group Inc. said Tuesday it will start charging fliers $25 to check in a second bag, the latest effort by the company to raise revenue and deal with rising costs. The new charge will begin May 5 for tickets bought today, the company said. The announcement follows a similar policy change disclosed early this month by United Airlines. US Airways spokesman Morgan Durant said the baggage charge is expected to generate $75 million in revenue and cost savings each year. The carrier decided to add the charge as it looked for new ways to make money while dealing "with the operating reality that we have with $100 a barrel in oil," he said. About 8 percent of US Airways customers check more than one bag, Durant said. Under the new program, fliers will get one checked bag free plus their carry-on bags.
